When the New England Patriots took Mac Jones with the 15th pick in the 2021 draft, it was clear that the team was looking to a new era. Under the guidance of Bill Belichick, Jones would be the team’s eventual quarterback. However, what originally looked be a year or two down the road has turned into an instant impact. With the Alabama alum kicking off his first season as the Patriots starter, Mac Jones Rookie Card interest soared.

When the first 2021 football card products arrived, Jones’ cards were popular. That said, he was at the top of the second tier of a deep rookie QB crop trailing behind Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson and Justin Fields. That was to be expected as all were taken ahead of Jones.

After putting up strong numbers in the pre-season, Jones earned the starting spot over 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton, who the Patriots ended up cutting.

Like that, the 2020 Heisman runner-up finds himself as the hobby face of one of the biggest franchises in football and one of the big rookies collectors will be chasing. By the time the final 2021 product rolls around, Jones will have appeared on thousands of cards. At kickoff for his first regular season game, he already had over 1,500 including all base cards, inserts and parallels.

The very first Mac Jones Rookie Cards, which arrived not long after the draft, picture him in his Alabama gear. Sets coming out around the start of the season began to picture Jones and other rookies in their full NFL uniforms. Autographs and memorabilia cards are often inserts in the early part of the year. However, as the year goes on, that’s when more of the “Big Macs” will start to appear as numerous super-premium products arrive.
