SmartRay has introduced a new type of 3D sensor for glass inspection, which adds important value to the production process by improving quality and accuracy.

The new ECCO 95.025G is an economical and compact sensor designed to meet the challenges of scanning transparent and highly reflective surfaces. Historically, 3D glass scanning using laser triangulation has been impossible because the laser light passes through the glass and light reflections can cause data inconsistencies. However, SmartRay has developed its sensor technology around advanced reflection filtering algorithms to improve repeatability and accuracy.

This new sensor joins the ECCO 95.015G in the ECCO 95 glass series; both sensors are specifically designed to measure flat glass and mirrors. ECCO glass sensors use optimized lenses and optical components, as well as SmartRay's advanced SmartX software optimization tools, to provide high-precision, high-resolution, and high-speed scanning solutions. This gives manufacturers and machine builders the opportunity to use 3D laser scanning to obtain excellent 3D images of their products when measuring or inspecting glass and shiny surfaces, ensuring consistent quality and correct size specifications.

ECCO 95.025G provides a larger 28.5 mm field of view (midfield) to inspect larger parts or reduce the number of scans required. Its bright blue laser provides a typical lateral resolution of 13 to 14.5 µm and a vertical resolution of 1.4 to 1.9 µm, and can create 3D contours of up to 1920 points.

SmartRay ECCO Sensor Business Unit Manager Clare Rathsack said: “Our two ECCO 95 models specifically designed for glass have changed the rules of the game, taking 3D glass scanning to a new level. Customers can now confidently measure flat glass surfaces and measure the most Glass thickness and defect detection on challenging shiny surfaces. In addition to improving accuracy, our ECCO sensor can also be integrated with third-party vision software to provide a cost-effective and fully customizable solution for any flat glass or mirror surface plan."
