DJI Action 2 is the successor to the original Osmo Action camera released in May 2019.

DJI and Action 2 are moving in different directions, and it does not maintain the same design and appearance as the original version. Instead, DJI turned the camera into a smaller cube, which is easily reminiscent of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX0 II digital camera.

It is also interesting that DJI has turned Action 2 into a modular system. In this way, you can keep the size smaller or add DJI's external battery or external monitor according to the shooting requirements.

Action 2 is indeed equipped with a 1.76-inch OLED touch screen, but you can also add an additional OLED screen module, which is connected to the bottom of the camera unit via a magnetic lock.

You can watch the live announcement above.

The physical size of DJI Action 2 is 39 x 39 x 22.3mm / 1.53 x 1.53 x 0.87″. It weighs only 56 grams / 1.97 ounces. Its waterproof depth can reach 10m / 32.8'. If you put it in waterproof In the box, you can lower it to 18.28m / 60'.

At the top, you can see how the weight and size compare with Osmo Action, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX0 II digital camera and GoPro HERO10 Black.

What you obviously need to consider is that the weight of Action 2 does not include the external screen. Talk about it later.

The main camera unit of Action 2 is waterproof, and you can use it up to 10 meters deep. Please note that when used with a dual-screen module, a waterproof enclosure is required.

Action 2 uses the most advanced magnetic versatility claimed by DJI. There are a variety of magnetic accessories available for the camera.

Now, because it uses magnets, DJI said it should be kept away from medical devices such as IC cards, hard drives, RAM chips, and pacemakers.

Action 2 uses a 1/1.7" CMOS sensor. This is larger than the 1/2.3" CMOS sensor used in Osmo Action. The lens used is F/2.8 and the field of view is 155°.

DJI said that Action 2 is equipped with a new color temperature sensor, which can achieve color tones in complex lighting and underwater recording, providing more vivid and natural colors

To make Action 2 more versatile, DJI has an external 1.76-inch OLED screen that you can clip to the bottom of the camera.

This external screen weighs 64 grams and has a physical size of 39 x 41.6 mm x 24.6 mm. The touch screen is protected by Gorilla Glass.

Action 2 has pretty good recording options, especially for such a small camera.

The camera records in MP4 (H.2.64/HEVC) up to 130Mbps. Action 2 has a built-in 32GB memory and no MicroSD slot. If you want to record to the card, you can only do it after connecting the optional touch screen module or the optional battery module. Both have a microSD card slot. You can use cards with a capacity up to 256GB.

The camera can also record time-lapse photography in 4K (UHD), 2.7K, or HD formats at intervals of 0.5 seconds to 5 hours. You can also do Hyperlapses.

For such a small camera, the ability to record Ultra HD at speeds of up to 120fps is impressive.

Like DJI's previous products, Action 2 uses DJI's Rocksteady EIS electronic image stabilization system.

Action 2 is also equipped with the new HorizonSteady, which can lock the screen to the horizontal horizon when shooting, and maintain a stable and level lens no matter how the person using it moves.

According to DJI, the Action 2 battery can be used alone for up to 50 minutes. If you add an external screen, the number can be up to 135 minutes, because the external screen also has its own battery.

DJI will also sell an optional external battery, which will increase the operating time to 180 minutes.

This external battery weighs 56.6 grams and has a physical size of 39 x 41.6 x 21.4 mm. This makes it exactly the same size as the external screen. It is said that the charging time for external batteries and the camera is 90 minutes.

Action 2 is equipped with a DJI matrix stereo system, which consists of four microphones.

You can also purchase an optional DJI microphone. This is a wireless two-channel recording system. DJI Mic has a recording range of up to 200 meters and is compatible with Action 2, smartphones and any device with 3.5 mm audio input. The transmitter can provide up to 7.5 hours of battery life. DJI Mic comes with a charging case.

As you would expect from any action camera, DJI provides a large number of accessories for Action 2.

These include magnetic pendants, magnetic brackets with ball heads, and Bluetooth remote extension cables.

There is also a DJI Action 2 macro lens available. It is characterized by optical glass with multiple coatings, which is magnetically attached to the camera unit lens.
