2021 Topps Finest Flashbacks Baseball aims for some mid ’90s nostalgia. The online-exclusive release taps into 1994 Topps Finest Baseball for its inspiration but with an updated checklist of current stars.
It’s the sophomore release for the line. 2020 Finest Flashbacks Baseball draws from the inaugural 1993 set. So if it continues beyond 2021, collectors can likely expect a Heritage-style approach that simply tacks on another year.
Like the product it draws from, the 2021 Topps Finest Flashbacks Baseball checklist isn’t overly complex.
The base set has 220 total cards. Designs are based on the handful of layouts found in the original 1994 Finest release on similar chromium stock. The first 200 cards are a mix of veterans and rookies.
Refractors and Gold Refractors are both 1:18 packs, which means there is likely to be one of each in a hobby box. Other parallels include Prism Refractors, Black Refractors, Red Refractors and Superfractors.
The final 20 cards on the checklist are short prints. Retired stars are the focus here, many of whom appeared in the original set. These land 1:18 packs, approximately one per hobby box. Parallels match up with the rest of the base set except for a lack of base Refractors.
The only other cards in 2021 Topps Finest Flashbacks Baseball are autographs. These come in two designs, Homeplate and Oval.
Homeplate Design Autographs are all veterans. Mike Trout, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ronald Acuna Jr. and Miguel Cabrera are among those featured. The 24 Oval Design Autographs are a mix of rookies and legends. Derek Jeter, Greg Maddux and Nolan Ryan are some of the greats while Jarred Kelenic, Ke’Bryan Hayes and Alex Kirilloff count among the rookies.
Autographs are not easy to pull. Refractors, the most common type, are 1:320 packs. Aqua, Gold, Orange and Red Refractors are also available as well as Superfractors.
Hobby boxes come with 18 packs of five cards. Members of Topps’ 582 Montgomery Club got first dibs with a pre-sale starting September 8. The cost? $199.99 per box, up from $55 the previous year. Unlike 2020, which had a three-box limit, there’s a limit of one box per member. Remaining boxes were made available to the general public on September 9.

I am Montgomery club member and even I am skipping this. Asking $200 for a box with No autographs and just one refracter……Topps has completely quit after losing their baseball license .

I stopped reading after that.
There’s too much speculation. The box prices in general have gone through the roof. How do you explain a box of 2021 Donruss Football going for $500 and you get an auto and jersey per box. Last year it was half that price and you got 2 autos and 2 jersey cards per box. So long hobby, it’s been nice knowing you for 30 years.
Not sure what 2021 Donruss Football has to do with this product or why you cut and paste the exact same comment from the 2021 Donruss Football post. It’s a market that’s fluxing. It always has been it’s just a lot bigger swing over the last year or so. If some are willing to pay $X, that’s what the price will be. If they’re not, the price will drop. While on the topic of Donruss Football, there’s also blasters and retail configurations.
Thank you @Ryan Cracknell. The comment was supposed to be specifically for that 2021 Donruss Football checklist article. I don’t necessarily agree with you about the price dropping. Instead, I think it fuels folks to get the other configurations products like blasters and retails pricing as resell it for many many more times that it’s worth.
