Make sure you already accomplished these features in order to start catching fish in Genshin Impact:

In order to unlock the World Quest "Exploding Population" you have to visit Katheryne from the The Adventurers' Guild in Mondstadt.

Then, visit Nantuck in the Fishing Association near Cider Lake

Note: Katheryne from Liyue or Inazuma will not start this quest.

Nantuck will give players their first fishing rod and bait. He will also introduce the mechanics for fishing.

After a successful first attempt, he will explain that fish are all around Teyvat and that there are types which are more valuable but are harder to catch.

Ornamental Fish - collecting this type of fish will allow you to exchange them for rewards in the exchange store of the Fishing Association in every region.

You can also decide to keep them in your Pool of Sapphire Grace in the Serenitea pot.

There are more than 20 species around Teyvat. Genshin Impact 2.1 added a pin to indicate Fishing Points locations, and fish refresh every 72hrs.

Whoever is familiar with fishing in videogames will know that you need a certain type of bait for a certain kind of fish. Genshin Impact 2.1 fishing is bringing that experience to players as well.

Travelers can obtain blueprints for different type of baits after completing missions and exchanging fish in the Fishing Associations.

There are also four special fishing rods that will increase the odds for players:

Among the current rewards from exchanging captured fishes, "The Catch" is a new free to play Polearm, which is the F2P weapon of choice for Baal. Make sure not to miss it!
